LOCAL MISSIONS
Community Needs
Marshall Hope Pantry (ongoing)
- The Marshall Hope Pantry provides food and social assistance to hundreds of vulnerable and underserved families in our community. Food and baby supply donations are always welcome at the modular buildings in the EP Church parking lot. Volunteers are also welcome on the second and fourth week of the month at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. For more information, visit marshallhope.org or contact Amy Marshall at 410-491-5070.
Great Giveaway (spring and fall)
- Our church hosts a massive yearly yard sale for our community – where everything is free! Usually taking place in October and April, you can start saving clothing, shoes, books, household goods, and Bibles at any time of year to drop off at the church the day before the event. Call the church office for more details.
Refugee Family Care (ongoing)
- Our church hosts an Afghan refugee family who arrived in our city in 2022. We serve this family in a variety of ways, such as providing transportation to doctor appointments and watching their children during ESL classes and medical appointments. For more information, please contact Jacob and Emily Risner at [email protected] or Laurie Nelson at [email protected].
Tutoring
ESL (English as a Second Language) (weekly)
- As ministers of the gospel, we have a way to love our international neighbors by helping them learn English. The ESL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) ministry meets at EP on Mondays from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Our approach is team-based, with 2-3 people per team, and training is provided. For more information, contact Theresa Doolan at [email protected] or at 443-277-9811.
Homework Haven (weekly)
- Homework Haven is an after-school ministry at Woodside Gardens. Volunteers help elementary students with homework and then work to improve basic reading and math skills using various materials and educational games. The children love the attention! It is a wonderful opportunity to help them succeed in school and show them acceptance and friendship. The program runs Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at 700 Newtowne Dr., Annapolis. Most volunteers serve one day a week, and we especially need volunteers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For more information, contact Nancy Deibert at [email protected].
Marshall Learning Center (weekly)
- This center, an arm of the Marshall Hope Corporation, provides tuition-free tutoring for children in our community. We currently need math and reading tutors on Mondays, 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Tatiana Klein at [email protected] or visit https://www.marshallhope.org/marshall-learning.
Homelessness
Winter Relief (yearly)
- Every winter, churches in the Annapolis area partner together to provide a warm meal and place to sleep during the coldest months for those experiencing homelessness. EP hosts one of these weeks, which we call “Winter Relief,” at the beginning of each calendar year. During our host week, different groups in the church provide dinner and edifying conversation each evening, and we provide a safe space to shower and basic first-aid services. Check out our events page or call the church office at 410-266-8090 for the date of our next Winter Relief week.
Coat Drive (fall)
- We host a coat drive for Anne Arundel residents who have fallen upon hard times or who are transitioning out of homelessness. The ministry requests new and gently used coats, preferably ones that are water resistant (no rain coats or trench coats, please). We need all sizes, from infant overcoats to men’s garments in size XXL. Contact Laurie Nelson, outreach director at EP, at 410-266-8090 for more information.
Light House Dinner (monthly)
- EP has a team committed to preparing and serving dinner to 60 shelter residents the fourth Saturday of the month, through the community organization Light House. There is also an “off-site” opportunity to assemble 25, 50, 75, or 100 sandwiches for anyone who comes to Light House’s doors hungry at lunch. If your Renew group, Equip class, or family would like to volunteer for either opportunity, please contact Gayle Blizzard at [email protected].
Deacon Auto Clinic
Deacon Auto Clinic (spring and fall)
- Twice a year, our deacons host a Saturday auto-clinic for those who have questions about their car, need their oil changed, or require general servicing that they could not otherwise afford. Keep an eye on our events page for the date of our next auto clinic, or call the church office at 410-266-8090. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mike Hannigan at [email protected].
Treasuring Life
Wellspring Life Ministry (Ongoing)
- With the gospel at its foundation, Wellspring Life Ministry has been serving expectant parents and their unborn children in the Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton, Severna Park, and surrounding communities since 1982. They provide free medical services, options counseling, education, community referrals, and hope for moms facing an unexpected pregnancy. For more information, contact Angela Murray at 443- 857-8045 or [email protected], or visit wellspringlife.org.
Serving Within the Church
Hospitality (Ongoing)
- Greeters welcome attendees at the door with a warm greeting and happy smile before the Equip Hour and before the Worship Service begins.
- Ushers greet people as they enter the sanctuary, help them find seats, collect the offering, and tidy the sanctuary after the Sunday service ends. For more information, contact George King at [email protected].
- Coffee Cleanup Crew assists in cleaning up the coffee area after the Worship Service! They contribute to the vital mission of keeping our church family caffeinated and alert on Sunday mornings. For more information about any of these teams, contact Laurie Nelson at [email protected].
Raking Leaves (fall)
- Each fall (and sometimes spring) there are elderly people in our congregation who need help with raking their leaves. Whether you come alone, make it a family event, or join forces with your Renew or Equip group, this is a great way to bless those in our church family in a very practical way! For more information, please contact Tom Beall at [email protected].
Christmas Gift Ministry
Operation Christmas Child (once a year)
- We’re excited to partner with Samaritan’s Purse’s “Operation Christmas Child,” to reach children across the globe through gift-filled shoeboxes that include a gospel message. We ask participants to fill a shoebox with gifts, affix a label, and return their box to EP by our big collection day in November. To find the date of this year’s collection day, visit our events page or contact Laurie Nelson at [email protected].
Annapolis Angels (once a year)
- Annapolis Angels is a ministry of EP that assists families in need during the Christmas season. Through this outreach, we minister to families with whom our church works regularly throughout the year and those in the greater Annapolis community. This year, we will provide meals, clothing, and other needs for children enrolled in the Marshall Learning Center. Angel tags are distributed on a designated Sunday in November – for more information, please contact Gayle Blizzard at [email protected].
Jail Ministry
Good News Jail Ministry (weekly)
- Come join the growing team of men and women who assist and lead Bible studies at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. For more information contact Dick Skinner at [email protected] or Laurie Nelson at [email protected].
Assisted Living Outreach
Worship Service at Manresa (weekly)
- The Celebration Villa of Manresa is an assisted living facility right in our own backyard! Every Sunday morning during Equip hour, members of Annapolis EP lead residents in a worship service, which includes music and a message. If you would like to learn more, please contact Chris Jensen at 443-223-9815 or [email protected].
